The City and Guilds 2395-01 level 3 award has been developed as one of the replacement qualfications for City and Guilds 2391-10,  and comprehensively covers Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

Please note that City and Guilds 2395-01 is been designed as one of the "direct" replacements (City and Guilds 2394 is the other qualfication) for City and Guilds 2391-10 but shares many of the characteristics of City and Guilds 2391. As part of the updating process, the series of practical assessment have been thoroughly revised and updated.

The award is at Level 3 and has been endorsed by SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for the building services engineering sector.

Delegates who undertake this award and are successful have opportunities to progress on to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

City and Guilds 2395-01 has been designed to replace City and Guilds 2391-10. It should be noted that this City and Guilds 2395-01 qualification is designed to prepare candidates for the processes involved in carrying out periodic inspection of electrical installation work. Furthermore, it references all the changes that were incorporated in BS 7671:2008 (incorporating amendment no 1: 2011), the 17th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations. It is important to note that the 17th Edition Amendment No 1 contains extensive and significant changes.

The course is aimed at practising electricians, or equivalent, who have already been carrying out the process of Periodic Inspection and Testing as per the requirements of BS7671 and require a formal, recognised qualification. It may also be of benefit to those who may have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying and need to gain a further understanding and a formal qualification.

It is important to note that this course (and more importantly, the syllabus) anticipate that candidates have an understanding of electrical theory; including the effects of resistanceson cables, common electrical equations, etc., and how to work safely in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

  • The requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations for the safe inspection of electrical systems and equipment

  • Appropriate procedures for completing safe isolation

  • Health and Safety requirements which apply when inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical installations and circuits

  • The purpose of periodic inspection of electrical installations

  • The requirements of the periodic inspection

  • Documents associated with the inspection and testing and condition reporting of an electrical installation

  • The required information that the inspector needs to conduct the periodic inspection of an electrical installation

To achieve this award, delegates are required to undertake the following: :

  • successfully complete one online 40 question multiple choice examination (this can be omitted if the delegate has already achieved a successful pass on the City and Guilds 2394-01 on line examination

  • successfully complete one electronic 'written' test,  comprising of 6 scenario based questions, requiring the delegate to provide 4 detailed answers

  • successfully complete one timed (2 1/2 hours) practical assessment

There is also a timed 2 1/2 hour practical assessment

This course is subject to vat and is  inclusive of all course materials, examination fees and refreshments.

Publications for this course are sold separately and not included in the price.

Important Information

As the course itself deals with the application of knowledge involved with the inspection and testing of electrical installations, it is anticipated that candidates who wish to undertake this course should have some electrical experience in inspection and testing of electrical installations; preferably participation in the process of initial verification and/or periodic inspection and testing.

All potential candidates should be aware that there is no practical "hands on" training with City and Guilds 2395 - we recommend that if you need training specifically on electrical testing, that you book a place on our ever popular City and Guilds 2392-10 course or speak to us directly by calling us on 0800 170 7007.

Delegates are required to obtain up-to-date copies of BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3.

All City and Guilds 2395 written examinations are known as "on-demand" examinations.

All written examination papers are marked by an appointed City and Guilds examiner, with results not normally available for around 2 to 4 weeks - any delays in marking written examination papers is generally outside of our control, however, we will advise you of your result by post and/or e mail as soon as we have been notified.

This course leads to a fully accredited level 3 qualification. At the moment, City and Guilds are only releasing a maximum of 5 examination dates during 2012,  however, this is subject to change at short notice.

Please note that the electronic 'written' examination is a "closed book" examination.

Delegates are required to have 1 copy of the following:

    * The 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008
    * BS7671:2008 On site Guide
    * Guidance Note 3
