This Award gives the delegate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting for both single and three phase electrical installations.


The qualification follows a sylabus as determined by the Summit Skills - it also references BS 7671:2008, IET Guidance Note 3, as well as the Electrical Safely Council’s Best Practice Guides.


It should be noted that this EAL qualification has "equivalence" to the City and Guilds 2395 qualification.

The main key difference from the delegates point of view is:

There is no written examination as with this EAL award, all the theory is assessed as an online examination or "test" and crucially is an open-book examination, however the practical assessments are virtually the same as City and Guilds 2395.

 

This qualification is for electricians andf others who wish to obtain a nationally recognised qualfication that demonstates a complete understanding of the processes invloved in periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations and the issuance Electrical Installation Condition Reports.

The application of knowledge involved with the periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations. It has one unit, covering safe isolation, condition reporting requirements, periodic inspection and testing, interpreting test results and certification.

  • The requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations for the safe inspection of electrical systems and equipment

  • Appropriate procedures for completing safe isolation

  • Health and Safety requirements which apply when inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical installations and circuits                                                                                                                                                                          

  • The purpose of periodic inspection of electrical installations

  • The requirements of the periodic inspection

  • Documents associated with the inspection and testing and condition reporting of an electrical installation

  • The required information that the inspector needs to conduct the periodic inspection of an electrical installation

here is one on line examination comprising a series of mulitple choice and selected questions - the examination is open book

There is 1 full inspection and i full inspection mand test - total duration is one and half hours

As the course itself deals with the application of knowledge involved with the full periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations, it is anticipated that delegates who wish toi undertake this course should ideally have some electrical testing experience .

Delegates are required to obtain an up to date copy of the IET Guidance Note 3
