IEE Wiring Regulations: 17th Edition.......it's now in Force
The 17th Edition of the Wiring regulations published in mid January 2008 is the definitive standard for electrical installations since the 1st of July 2008, when it came into full force. however, as with any technical document, there are bound to be some mistakes - in response to this, the IEE has made available an update or a corrigenda and errata....you can go straight to the IEE website by clicking on this link >>>>> and what's more the document is free to download, but you will need the latest version of Adobe PDF reader to open the document.
Installations designed before July 1st 2008 can be in accordance with the 16th Edition of the wiring regulations and installed and certified to this standard provided the work itself is carried out and completed by July 1st 2008.
However, all designs that intend and/or will be installed or started after July 1st must comply with and be to the IEE Wiring Regulations, BS 7671:2008, 17th edition.
Any installations that intend or will be altered after the 1st of July 2008 will also have to comply with IEE Wiring Regulations, BS 7671:2008, 17th edition - in particular, initial verification of the installation (regulation 610.1) is something that all electrical installers must be aware of, and as such comply with this important element of the 17th edition. if you need any advice on how to achieve compliance or you want to look at how you would achieve compliance through a City and Guilds qualification, please call us on 0845 370 8118 or click here >>>> to go to the City and Guilds 2392-10 page.
There are a number of bodies who are currently working on a common technical approach to some interpretations to the 17th Edition..............click here >>>> to access more information (this is an external link)
